How to make a pixillation animation

You will need:

  1. A digital stills camera or video camera that can take stills
  2. A tripod
  3. A computer
  4. Video software such as Windows Movie Maker or iMovie or Photostory
  5. An actor or actors
  6. A place to film with good lighting

The aim of this simple exercise is to make it appear that a person is moving around the room without taking any steps.

  1. Set up the tripod and camera in a fixed position
  2. Have your actor stand in one part of the room with their feet together
  3. Take a shot
  4. Get your actor to move about a foot forward.  Get them to stand with their feet together again and then take another photograph
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 until your actor has moved around the room. You will need at least 50 photos or more to get the effect.
  6. Upload your photographs
  7. Import the photos into an image editing software and play at 25 or 12 frames per second.
