English literacy development needs to be embedded in all teaching. The Australian Core Skills Framework is the nationally recognised framework to assess the oral, written and reading literacies, learning strategies and numeracy that learners use. The ACSF provides a framework to assess and report on English literacy standards.
The summary of the ACSF is available here. It is also useful to assess learning tasks to understand the literacies needed to undertake those activities.

Here are some examples of the literacy assessments of some of the learning activities from this resource. These can be used to identify literacy areas that might need to be developed through a training session or to ensure learning activities are matched to learners' literacy skills. Using the ACSF is a specialised area and it is a good idea to work with a literacy specialist if possible.
